Portrait Commission

MY COMMISSION BOOK IS CURRENTLY OPEN

PICKING YOUR PHOTO

Before contacting me, It's a good idea to have the reference photo you would like me to draw from ready. The photo needs to be clear, in focus and contain good detail and character. This is the most important part of achieving a good portrait.

I now prefer digital reference photos as this stops hard-copies possibly getting lost or damaged in the post. If you only have a hard-copy, then taking a digital photo of the original can work.

Also I find, with today's mobile phone technology, most mobile phones can take high quality photos perfect for me to work from as long as a few basic steps have been taken.

  • Make sure your photo has been taken in good light. Natural light works best.
  • Make sure the subject is in focus. Detail is the key to realistic portraits.
  • The subject should be close and not too far away or in the background.
  • Several photos are better than one. Sometimes a photo of your chosen subject, even in good light and focus might just not work or look good for a portrait drawing.

STARTING THE COMMISSION PROCESS

Once you have your photos, you can contact me by clicking on, ordering a commission. This will take you to a basic form page where you can enter your details and a brief description of the ideas you have for a portrait.

TIMESCALE

Portraiture is a time demanding process and can vary greatly depending on,

  • The size of the portrait.
  • The number of subjects.
  • The chosen medium.
  • The quality/complexity of the chosen reference photo.

Also during busy periods, portraits will take longer. This will all be discussed once you have contacted me. If you need your portrait for a specific date, the sooner you contact me, the better.

PAYMENT INFORMATION

After you have contacted me using the, ordering a commission form, and we have both agreed to go ahead with the discussed portrait, I will require a 30% deposit before I make a start.

Once the portrait is finished, I will send you a sample scan/photo, and if you are happy with the finished portrait the remaining balance will need to be paid before I send any work out.

ALL PAYMENTS FOR ALL PORTRAIT WORK AND DEPOSITS WILL NEED TO BE MADE BY BANK TRANSFER.
